Google Asks US Government to Break Up Microsoft’s Cloud Deal with Open AI
Google has urged the US government to break up Microsoft’s exclusive cloud deal to host Open AI’s technology on its cloud servers,
The information Google requested came during the FTC investigation into Microsoft’s business practices. The search giant states that Microsoft’s deal with Open AI impacts and creates market barriers, potentially raising costs for cloud clients looking to gain access to advanced AI technologies.
This latest cloud news sheds light on the main dispute centers on Microsoft’s recent arrangement, which enables the company to be the single cloud provider hosting open AI’s top-notch AI models.
This can compete with cloud providers like Google and Amazon, which are seeking the ability to host Open AI’s technology, contending that the recent exclusive agreement limits market competition and client choice.
Furthermore, as per the resources, businesses who are seeking to use Open AI’s products may face hike charges if they select not to operate Microsoft’s server. So, Google and other companies have noticed that these additional charges may impact users, restricting their flexibility and increasing expenses.
Recently, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai challenged Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella to compare their AI models directly. Speaking at a Summit in New York, Pichai added, “I would love to do a side-by-side comparison of Microsoft models and our models at any time.”
Nadella replied to his comment, stating, “Who questioned Google’s position in the AI race, also in March, Nadella said, Google could have been the clear winner in AI race”
He also mentioned Google’s strengths, stating that Google is a very capable company with talent and resources. They have everything from data to hardware to models to products and distributions.
