Karnataka Allocates Rs 104 Crore Towards Cybersecurity
The Karnataka government has set aside Rs 104 crore for cybersecurity over the next five years to combat and increase public awareness of online crime.
This comes after the Cybersecurity Policy 2024 was introduced by the government on August 1. The Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Science and Technology’s budgetary allotment would cover the costs. 23.74 crore rupees of this.

The new policy has two sections—the first concerns creating a robust cybersecurity ecosystem encompassing the public, academic, and industrial spheres.
The new cybersecurity policy has ambitious goals. It aims to develop a secure, dynamic, and resilient cyberspace for all G2B, G2G, and G2C services of the Karnataka government. This includes the design of an assurance framework, strengthening of the regulatory framework, rapid response to security threats, protection of critical information, reduction of supply chain risks, and the development of human resources.
Priyank Kharge, said, “The policy, aligned with national and international efforts, highlights Karnataka’s proactive stance in addressing cyber threats. Its implementation would significantly protect the state’s digital infrastructure. It will also foster innovation and growth within the cybersecurity sector.”
The DPAR(e-Gov) Secretary will be the Member Secretary. A Chief Information Security Officer will be nominated at the state level and ISOs will be nominated by all the government departments.
